Yes certainly. We welcome anyone who would like to have a try at bowls. No experience or specific skills necessary. Come along to one of our Open Days in April each year or contact the Secretary, Andy Rose, email - [email protected]
2. What do I need to bring to an Open Day?
You only need to bring flat soled soft shoes or trainers for wearing when playing on the green.
3. I have often seen bowlers in white clothing. Do I need to wear similar clothes?
No – just turn up for an Open Day in normal casual, comfortable clothing that allows for easy bending when bowling.
4. I cannot make the Open Day. Are there other opportunities for me to come and try?

5. If I become interested in joining your club, is training or coaching available to me?
Yes, very much so. We have free and comprehensive training and coaching to cover all the needs of aspiring bowlers.
6. Is there an age limit?
No, not at all. Anyone can play, though it helps if you are physically fit. Our membership is open to all ages. Check out our coaching videos in the coaching section of our website - www.harpendenbowlingclub.co.uk

8. After I join, how much is the membership fee in my first year?

9. Is it easy to park at the club?
We have a small car park at the club but there is on-street parking in Spenser Road.
10. I would like to practise my bowling on a casual basis with other members. What is the best way for me to contact members?
There are roll up sessions on most Friday afternoons where you can just turn up and play in teams. This gives you the opportunity to meet other members of the club who will always be willing to help you in getting to know the club.
11. If I want to practice alone, can I access the bowling equipment and use one of the rinks?
Yes, all members are welcome to use the equipment kept in a secure shed close to the clubhouse. Details of how to access the equipment are provided to you on joining as a member. Also, you can book a rink through our easy to use computerised ‘Rink Diary’ system. Again, you will be given details of how to register when you become a member.
12. Does the club provide the bowls and club clothing?
Yes. During your first year as a member, you are very welcome to use the club’s bowls on a regular basis. After that, you will want to consider acquiring your own set of bowls. The club can provide useful guidance and tips on the type of bowls that will best suit you. With regard to clothing, the club provide a club shirt as part of the joining fee. You will need to acquire maroon trousers/skirt and bowls shoes. Advice on this can be provided by the club.
13. Are there opportunities to play in competitive matches?
Yes, numerous. The club has an extensive annual programme of competitive matches and competitions. You can play in friendly matches, and district and county level competitions. Also, there are various internal club competitions held during the season. A full list of our fixtures programme can be found on our website - www.harpendenbowlingclub.co.uk under the ‘Activities’ Section. Alternatively, just ask members who can help you with this.
14. Does the club organise social events?
Yes, there are social events run throughout the year including whist drives, quiz and music evenings. There are regular coffee mornings and pub evenings run from October to April, as well as seasonal get togethers such as Christmas lunches and carol singing. 15. Who runs the club?
The Management Committee is responsible for the general running and administration of the club. It comprises 12 members, representing different aspects of the club’s activities, who are elected by club members at the AGM in December including the President, Hon Secretary and Treasurer. It meets monthly and covers many matters such as policy on the use of rinks, new recruitment campaigns and the finances of the club. It actively encourages members to raise any issues for their consideration on any aspect of the club.
