Notice boards

Notice boards are littered around the club house and all have a separate and it appears ever changing priority.  If you want to stay up to date the best advice is frequently to wander around these notices.  Some information is only displayed here and often you need to commit yourself to functions using sheets which are hung here especially for that purpose.  Often no other mention is made of these functions and it is your only opportunity to sign up to many activities that are the life blood of the club.

Official Board:  On the wall alongside the bar is a large space where official notices are displayed.  These include prospective member requests, official letters received by the club, letters of thanks, and occasional team sheets, such as the Barlow Redford Competition.

News Board:  Between the official board and the kitchen is a board where mainly news cuttings and some club photographs are displayed.  This board contains the Fixtures and Results and the Duty Roster.

Results:  The results of all matches are posted on the list of fixtures.  Any member who knows a result may add this to the list.  Captains in all matches (except Club Competitions, which are not reported in the local Press) should complete a match report form showing details for the Press reports.  These are available from the box beside the rink book.

Duty Roster:  You are required to confirm your availability to help in the kitchen with teas or lunches when shown. (New Bowlers have a season or two before they are listed – so you should be comfortable with this procedure prior to using it.)

Floating Info Board:  Well its on wheels rather than water and is usually stationed on the right of the club house.  Club captains and president use this to inform the progress of our members in the various competitions that are happening outside of the club.

Member’s Board:  On the front wall between the windows, the board tell of specific social events that have happened, give members a chance to advertise/ buy bowling equipment.   One particular event, the club trip to Portugal, which occurs in the early spring, is advertised on this board.

Coach’s Board:  Also on the front wall this board has coaching info and special coaching sessions which are periodically arranged that you may wish to sign up to.

Social Board:  If no other board is checked each time you visit the club, this one should be.  Situated on the side wall that connects the front of the clubhouse with the bar and diagonally opposite the kitchen, it shows the social activity of the club. And here you sign up to participate in the many events which the club puts on throughout the season.  As a matter of course even if you have put your name down for inclusion in a certain competition, you should make sure that if there is a social event associated with it you also enter your name on the social list.  Better safe than sorry.

Competition Boards:  These are to be found in the corridor adjacent to the changing rooms and show the draw for each of the internal club competitions.  Please refer to the FAQ on competitions below for more information.  One of the uses of these boards is to house lists that are available for members to sign up for certain competitions that occur during the year.

Match List Boards:  These are found in the changing rooms.  They contain the lists for club matches against other clubs, which members are invited to fill in to show their availability to represent the club in these matches.  Club captains then make selections and these are posted on boards in the changing rooms.  It is important that if selected you tick your name to inform the club that you are aware of your selection.

District Boards:  Members are invited to show their availability to participate in district competitions representing either St Albans District or Herts County.  If you are chosen for these you will be representing the district against others in regional / national matches.  These boards are in the changing rooms.
