Harpenden's other ladies team in
the Top Club played at home against a strong Bushey side. Janet Hubball (Harpenden) had an extremely
close game in the singles just losing by one shot 20 - 21. Unfortunately, the triples lost 14 - 26 and
the fours lost 13 - 20, the pairs being unfinished at 14 - 14. Harpenden's winning team will now meet Bushey
away in the semi-final.
In the ladies Two Wood Singles at
Harperbury, Linda Newby (Harpenden) won three rounds, beating Christine Jefford
(Abbots Langley) 18 -2, Margaret Southam (Bushey) 16 - 10 and Tricia Pentecost
(Harpenden) 16 - 9. However, in a close final she lost to Janet
Sellek (Bushey) 15 - 12.
Harpenden men also had mixed
fortunes, losing 4 -1 in the National Top Club to a strong Garston team, but in
the second round of the County Ten they beat Hertford Castle 4 - 0,
Noel Roberts leading the way by
winning the singles 21 - 13, closely followed by the fours winning 21 - 15, the
triples winning 18 - 10 and the pairs 22 - 12, not needing the last end.

Harpenden's youngest member, 14
year old Tom Muir, played brilliantly in the Under 25 Singles at Roebuck,
winning three rounds to reach the final.
In the first round he beat Ross Kilford (Roebuck) 21 - 9, then had a
comfortable win in the second round over Andrew Avenell (North Mymms) 21 -2. He went on to win the third round against
Michael Coles (Garston) 21 - 11 and will now play in the final against S Lepley
(Sawbridgeworth) at Hatfield on 22nd July.

In the District League Harpenden
men beat Batchwood Hall 83 - 65, winning two rinks each and gaining 50 points
to Batchwood's 30. Harpenden's top rink:
Colin Driscoll, Doug Rodger, Ken Murray, Simon Burgess, 29 -12, including a
hotshot on the second end!
In a friendly mixed match,
Harpenden beat Abbots Langley 109 - 63 (top rink: Beryl Driscoll, Angela
Favell, John Williams, Tricia Pentecost 35 - 13). Harpenden ladies had a close triples match
with Beech Hill, just losing 40 - 44 (top rink:
Sue Murray, Dena Roberts, Tricia Pentecost 19 - 12), but in a mixed
match against Shire Park Harpenden won on all five rinks for an overall score
of 115 - 81 (top rink: Linda Newby, Lyn Roberts, Fred Whaley, John Millins 23 -
8).
